Birthday Weekend

Last weekend I went home for my sister Erin's 30th birthday!! Holy cow, how fast time flies by!! I know this sounds silly, but it seems like just yesterday we were 9 and 11 and were signing up to play rec league basketball. And now we are "all grown up" and she's a wife and a mom.

For her birthday party we had a murder mystery event. I had always heard about these parties but had never done one before and it was a blast!!! The party theme was the 70's (since that's the decade she was born) so we really got into it and went all out with costumes and hair (see the pictures below, they are stinkin' hilarious!!) We had a great time, trying to figure out who the killer was, finding the hidden weapons to 'kill' other people, and eating some fabulous food.

It's been awhile since I've spent a whole weekend at home so it was really nice to be there long enough to relax, spend time with my little sisters, go to my brother's basketball game, and go shopping with my mom.

But, I think the best part of the whole weekend was being at church with the family on sunday morning. The couple leading worship talked about when they shared last fall about their struggle with infertility for over 6 years and now had something to share with the congregation, they were pregnant!!! What an awesome testimony of trusting the Lord with the thing you want most and despite tears, frustration, and deep longing, trusting that the Lord's timing is perfect. Their simple phrase of encouragement for anyone in the congregation struggling with deep desires that the Lord hasn't yet brought about was this: He loves you!! When you are at your lowest point, crying out to the Lord for a spouse, a child, or whatever be reminded that you are loved by the God of the universe and He hasn't forgotten you! He has a plan and He does answer prayer, so we have to trust that He knows what He is doing and take comfort in His love and faithfulness.
